What Is Mage Agent?

Mage Agent lets you create on Mage by chatting. You describe what you're after, in a few words or a few sentences, and the agent does the building for you.

It also works on either side of the generate button. Before you start, it'll shape a half-formed idea into a clear plan, and after a result isn't quite right, it'll help you fix the prompt.

We launched Mage Agent in beta on September 11, 2026. This guide covers the 3 jobs it's built to start with, plus a handful of bigger requests worth trying once you've got the hang of it.


Before Your First Chat: Low, High and Gems

Open Mage Agent and you'll see the question "What would you like to create?" with a chat box underneath. That box is also where you choose the agent level.

Low is free, and it's the right place to start. High is the level for more advanced creations, so switch up when a request gets ambitious.

While Mage Agent is in beta, everything it generates is paid in Gems. New accounts get a one-time 300-Gem bonus, and you can top up Gems whenever you need more.

How Do You Go From a Vague Idea to the Generation You Want?

Most creations start as something fuzzier than a prompt: a mood, or half a scene you can't shake. You don't have to turn that into a prompt yourself.

Tell the agent what you've got and ask it to ask you questions to shape it:

I have a vague idea: something moody, maybe an old train station after dark. Ask me questions to shape it.

Answer what it asks, push back on anything that's off, and let it turn your answers into the generation.


Not Sure Which Model or App to Use? Ask the Agent

Mage runs a long list of image and video models, plus apps and features like Characters, References, Image Enhancer and Motion Control. That's a lot of choice when you just want the picture in your head.

The agent can make the call with you. Describe what you're making and ask which model fits, or which app or feature gets you there fastest:

Which model should I use for a photoreal portrait of my character?

I want my character to move like the dancer in this video. What should I use?

It's also a good way to find the models and features you haven't tried yet.


How Do You Create a Character With Mage Agent?

Start with the Create a character card. It sums the job up well: describe someone in a few words, and the agent does the rest.

A few words is plenty to begin. Say who they are and a detail or 2 about how they look, and you'll get a solid first pass:

For a longer project, ask the agent to help you design a character for your story. Give it the premise and the role they play, and it'll build the character to fit.

Once you land a face you love, turn it into a reusable Character. Upload a clear, well-lit, front-facing portrait on Characters, give it a short name, and save. That's what keeps the same face coming back in every scene after this one, with no identity drift between images.


How Do You Put Your Characters in a New Scene?

For new scenes, choose Create with your characters. Pick one of your saved characters, then tell the agent where they are and what's happening.

Describe the scene the way you'd set up a photo. Don't skip the light and the framing, since those 2 do most of the work on realism.

A Character holds the face. Everything else about the shot (the outfit, the pose) is separate, so spell it out if it matters.

You can also ask the agent to put 2 of your characters in a scene together, and say what each one is doing. "Maya and Jonah sharing an umbrella outside a train station" gives it a lot more to work with than "Maya and Jonah together."


How Do You Turn an Image Into a Video With Mage Agent?

Bring a creation to life turns an image you've made into a video. The fastest version is just asking the agent to turn your latest image into a short video.

The one habit that matters here is describing motion instead of the still. "A woman in a red coat at a train platform" reads as a photo that barely moves. Compare it with this:

Keep it to 1 or 2 actions, since a clip only runs a few seconds. Say what the camera does, too, even if the answer is "holds still," or the model will decide for you.

What If Your Generation Isn't Quite Right?

When a result is close but off, tell the agent what's wrong in plain words and ask it to help you fix the prompt. You don't need the technical vocabulary; describing the problem is enough to go on.

The face is right, but the light is flat and the background's too busy. Help me fix the prompt.

Change one thing at a time. Rewriting the whole prompt at once is the fastest way to lose what was already working.

If more words aren't fixing it, the model might be the problem. Ask the agent whether a different model would suit the shot better, and try it there.

Make a Few Variations of Something You Saved

Found a creation you almost love? Ask for a few variations of it. Name what should change (the lighting, say, or the expression) so each version comes back meaningfully different.

Write a Short Story and Illustrate It

Give the agent a premise and a cast, and ask it to write a short story and illustrate it. Point it at your saved characters so the people in the pictures don't change from the first scene to the last.

What's the difference between Low and High?

Can I still create manually?

Yes. The regular prompt bar and Advanced mode are exactly where they were. Mage Agent just gives you a second way in.
